Ring Mold Cake

Watch out Betty Crocker! A few weeks ago Nathan bought me this:

I have wanted a stand mixer since, I don't know how long, probably since I discovered the Food Network or Yan Can Cook. Anyway, breaking in the mixer, I made this:

Grandma Bedi's Ring Mold Cake.

It's a simple, yummy cake that doesn't need any frosting or other accoutrement. It's good with fresh fruit, a dusting of powdered sugar or my brother Tim's favorite, cinnamon sugar. It was a favorite of my Grandpa Bedi. He would say, with a smack of satisfaction and a cup of coffee in hand, "it's not too sweet". He, unlike me, was missing a sweet tooth. This cake always reminds me of my grandparents.

But something is a little off.....the terribly suggestive name - Ring Mold. Try out the recipe and help me think of a new name. I'm open to suggestions. Offering friends and family Ring Mold Cake just doesn't sound that appealing!

Grandma Bedi's "Ring Mold" Cake
Beat together:
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
3 eggs

Combine dry ingredients:
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder

Combine wet ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Alternate adding wet and dry to sugar/shortening mixture. Pour into well greased "ring mold" pan. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
